What is the most important subject to teach your homeschooled child? Is it math? Science? Geography, perhaps? Or maybe it’s history. English is pretty important, too, so is that it?

How about Bible study? Yes, Bible study. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a Christian, you can’t argue with the fact that the Holy Bible is the best-selling book of all time. Some have tried to destroy it throughout the centuries, and all have failed.

In the not-so-distant past, the Holy Bible was commonly read and taught in the public schools in the United States. In fact, it was often the centerpiece around which lessons were built.

Bible classes in public schools were once common across the USA. In Virginia, for instance, weekday religious education gained momentum in the 1920s when a majority of high school students flunked a simple Bible test. The first classes were held in the Washington region in 1929 in Arlington and Fairfax counties.

For decades, the lessons were conducted inside public school classrooms. But in its 1948 decision McCollum v. Board of Education the Supreme Court ruled that the lessons violated the principle of separation of church and state.

Amid criticism that it was atheistic, the court returned to the issue four years later in Zorach v. ClausonThat decision approved classes held away from school premises, ruling that the practice might be unwise from an educational viewpoint but that to prevent it would be hostile to religious freedom.

And these Bible classes, though still held in some areas, are also now under attack from the usual suspects, namely the ACLU and a minority of vocal non-Christians.

But if you’re like us, you’ll recognize that The Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God, and that it has all the answers to life’s questions, both now and for eternity.

Our purpose for this message today is not to try and convince you that the Bible is absolutely true (and it is), or that Jesus Christ came as God in the flesh to pay for the believer’s sins by dying on the cross in our place (which He did).

All we’re asking is that you accept our free gift of The Holy Bible today and read it for yourself and your children. Better grab it now before the ACLU figures out a way to have it banned completely, we say only half jokingly:

Sadly, The Holy Bible has virtually disappeared from the public school system, but as a homeschooler, you have the freedom to restore it to it’s proper place in your child’s studies.
